Coucheval, in the French Alps, is located in the Trois Valla-AAes, one of the largest ski areas in the world. The four-storey, slate-roof ski resort opens its glass doors directly onto the Belleca-AAte ski slope. Le Melezin's enviable location offers guests the advantage of being able to ski in and ski out of the hotel. Just 200 meters away is the village of Courchevel 1850, with its lively mix of apra-AAs-ski bars and boutiques and restaurants. (There are four Courchevel villages, each named after its altitude in meters.)
The views from Le Melezin are to forests of pine and to the skiers themselves. Ski above the village, however, and the vistas open all the way from the French to the Swiss Alps. Even Mont Blanc breaks through the clouds.
Le Melezin opened as an Amanresort in 1992. Its history, however, goes back to 1956, when the Marescal family opened Le Savoy on the very same space now occupied by Le Melezin. In the early 1990s, the resort was entirely reworked to echo the feeling of a fortress in medieval Savoy. Inside, oak beams from cha-AAteaux as much as 200 years old now grace the classically patterned parquet flooring, lobby paneling and much else.
