An African Villa opened to no fanfare in 2002. With countless Victorian guesthouses in the city, it became clear that guests visiting Africa were seeking an environment which resonated with the cultural traditions of the continent. The ambiance creates a sense of visiting in the exotic home of some warmhearted collector friend abroad. The feel is of 'urban safari' or 'African Zen' but neither of these captures the essence of this special mix of old and new, contemporary and primitive.
Entering through the ornately carved security doors of these three double story Victorian terrace houses which have been joined together, one is greeted by surprisingly generous common areas: a library housing free Internet facilities with wireless access, a lounge with inviting hearth, dining room with long refectory tables, a welcoming kitchen with smiling staff, sun-drenched courtyard with glistening plunge pool. Three stair cases snake their way to the upper landings offering tantalizing glimpses of twelve uniquely decorated guest rooms with beds dressed in luxurious, white cotton percale. Some rooms have balconies and views or partial views. All have air-conditioners, private phone lines, televisions, safety boxes whilst an honesty bar with complementary sherry or port, tea/coffee making facilities and full English breakfast are on offer.
Situated in a historic, quiet residential area with village feel, the villa is a brief stroll from the busy, happening side of the city. Some tixty restaurants await exploration nearby while Table Mountain, V&A Waterfront and the famed Atlantic beaches lie a few minutes away - always assuming that you can tear yourself away from the seductive environment of the house itself! Transfers, tours, and car rentals can be arranged and copious tourist and restaurant advice and local savvy by friendly, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Parking is on-street with guards on duty at night.
